Sure, there are far better things ahead than anything we leave behind. But let’s, for giggles and for something to get us started for the week ahead, look back for a moment.
What lessons do you wish you had learnt 5 years earlier? 10 years earlier? What things would you tell your 18-year-old self to look out for? In the workplace especially, but also in life?
What things do you wish you knew as soon as you stepped into the workforce?
I’m reminded of a scene I watched in the movie “The Kid” – cast your minds back, this was released in 2000 and starred Bruce Willis! When Bruce’s character asks an acquaintance what she would teach her younger self. She turns to him, and says she would tell her to stop worrying. ‘Everything is going to be ok.’
I would tell my 18-year-old self the same. I would also tell her to wear flats when walking to and from work and to not be so eager to please everyone – use your gut to know who is a beneficial contact and who is a waste of time. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
